The Art of the S/M Novel

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Have a half-finished erotic novel stashed somewhere on your hard drive? Not sure if you want to write that wild fantasy or happy-ever-after love story? Perhaps you’ve recently finished reading a certain trilogy and thought hey I could do that…

Come spend an evening discussing the Art of BDSM with an author whose books have been praised both for their “sizzling, explicit sex” (Good Vibrations Newsletter) and as “literate, sensual romance” (Library Journal). This hour-long presentation is a journey from individual arousal to writerly craft, with lots of time afterwards for questions and comment.

Topics will include:
Setting and Story: Physics for (sexy, humanistic) dummies
Point of View: What Jane Austen can teach the erotic writer Fetish, symbol, and substance
Language: Talk dirty to me (but not in cliché)
What’s Love Got to do With It: Romance vs porn vs erotica

Tickets are $25 per person and include entry to win a book from Cleis Press

Molly Weatherfield credits the sex-positive feminist culture of San Francisco with inspiring her to write Carrie’s Story – a BDSM novel that that, to her amazement, has been in print for 18 years, compared to Story of O, and named by Playboy as one of “the 25 sexiest novels ever written.” Under her own name, Pam Rosenthal, she’d written several erotic historical romance novels (one of which, The Edge of Impropriety, won a RITA – Romance Writers of America’s Oscar – for best historical romance, 2009). As Pam and Molly, she’s written book reviews for Salon.com and the San Francisco Chronicle, and she loves to discuss the genres she writes in and to teach aspiring erotic writers about making your work both hot and smart.
Due to the mind-boggling success of another BDSM novel, both Carrie's Story and its sequel Safe Word are now available with new introductions and public-transit-friendly covers, as well as in e-book format, and in spoken-word format from Audible.com.
