Classic Cars and Classic Stars at the Rock & Rod Festival
The Seventh Annual Monterey Rock & Rod Festival and Best of the West Competitions, May 17–18, 2013, is a celebration of rock and roll and custom & classic cars and trucks benefitting Gateway Center of Monterey County, Inc., an organization serving the needs of the developmentally disabled adults in Monterey County.
The festival features hundreds of 1975 and older vintage, customs, classics, hot rods, street rods, muscle cars, and trucks, located in the Salinas and King City Rooms and throughout beautiful Monterey County Fairgrounds. Also featured is the “Best of the West” competition for selected cars, awarding trophies to the best of classics and customs as well as a certificate for each accepted entry.
A Sock Hop kicks off the festival at 5:30 pm Friday evening and features Jeremy “Elvis” Pearce. Saturday the car show commences and live music rocks the Payton and Locals Stages all day and night starring a variety of great groups including Reincarnated Revival, Tom Faia & The Juice, Los High Tops, and The Money Band along with headliner Gary Lewis & The Playboys (“This Diamond Ring”, “Count Me In”, “She’s Just My Style”) and opening act the Yard Dogs, our house band, doing a tribute set list featuring songs of past festival headliners. Awards will be presented on Saturday at 4:15 pm.
Proceeds benefit Gateway Center’s Capital Campaign Program providing the developmentally disabled with a stimulating environment where they can achieve their goals with safety and dignity. Gateway Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation.
