Bay Area choreographer paige starling sorvillo presents an evening of short collaborative works created by and with her spring performance workshop participants.
Through a series of classes presented with Shawl-Anderson Dance Center in Berkeley, sorvillo offered workshop participants an introduction to the rigorous movement training and delicate energy practices of Japanese Butoh dance and Noguchi Taiso's water body. Drawing these studies together with her associative image-sourcing, improvisation and compositional practices, sorvillo has guided participants in embodied, visual and intellectual research on the nature of time to create short collaborative performances.
Dances created together with workshop participants Demi/Alex Ayuna, Yuri Pop, Chi Chi Chang, Amy Cranch, Mark de Dios, Agnes Szelag, and Ramlah Yavar are supported, guided, and, in part, directed by paige starling sorvillo. The works are generated responding to quantum physics, capitalist time, geologic time, time loops and each of the participants personal relationships with ideas around the nature of time.
This performance has been supported by a Berkeley Civic Arts Grant and the workshops have been a co-production between paige starling sorvillo / blindsight and Shawl-Anderson Dance Center. There will be a reception after Saturday's show.
$15-$20.
Presented by paige starling sorvillo / blindsight.
