Temple Israel officially installs its new rabbi, Rabbi Cynthia Minster, during a Friday night Shabbat Service on May 19, at 7:30 pm. The community is invited to meet her and attend this free service with a reception to follow. On Saturday, May 20, at 6 pm, there will be a celebratory dinner and dancing party to mark this occasion. Tickets are required for the dinner and must be purchased in advance. This is a major fundraiser for the congregation.
Rabbi Minster earned a BA in Peace & Justice Studies from Wellesley College in 2000, and an MA in Rabbinical Studies from the Academy for Jewish Religion, California, where she was also ordained last year.
Prior to joining Temple Israel, she served as the student rabbi and as a religious school teacher at Temple Beth David of Temple City, CA, as well as the student chaplain at Methodist Hospital of Southern California. Rabbi Minster also attended Davvenen' Leadership Training Institute (DLTI), was a Shalom Hartman Institute iEngage Student Clergy Fellow, and a CLAL Leading Through Innovation participant. Rabbi Minster and her husband, Chung-Mau Cheng, are raising their two children in Alameda.
