TEKTITE

at John Colins (see times)
Aliens have created a hip hop remix of the music from the Voyager Golden Record. This Record was launched into outer space in 1977. Carl Sagan and NASA attached it to an Interstellar Probe hoping it might reach intelligent life. It contained music and sounds representing all aspects of earth and all cultures of humanity. Extraterrestrials found this record, remixed it and transmitted it back to earth. This music will be released in its entirety to the public for the first time May 15th, 2014. El Drubio, of the Oakland based band Tektite, discovered these alien transmissions in 2012. When he realized what he was hearing, he attempted to contact authorities but was shut down many times. Seth Shostak, of the S.E.T.I. (Search for ExtraTerrestrial Intelligence) Institute, told him that "chances are these signals you are receiving are not coming from outer space." Knowing the truth, Drubio decided the world needed to hear this music, and brought it to his band. Tektite have decoded the alien transmission, digitally mastered a mix of this music to release to the public and begun performing it live. The music appears to be based around collages of samples from the record sent into space in 1977. Drubio claims that within the 6 songs sent from space he has identified samples from at least 19 different pieces on the voyager record. There is Bach mixed with Chuck Berry, Beethoven mixed with Navajo chants and Peruvian pan pipes mixed with Senegalese percussion and classical strings. The band released three tracks on April 10th and will release the entire transmission May 15th with a show at John Collins Bar in Downtown San Francisco. Their live shows, known as Cosmic Musical Immersions, are known locally as intense aural and visual experiences. For more information visit tektitetheband.com.

Tektite will perform the transmission in its entirety. More music provided by Jin, DJ Gio, and Bay.Thickly
