Bring your poems, verses, spoken word pieces and prose to share at our Teen Open Mic, hosted by Vice Oakland Youth Poet Laureate Samuel Getachew and featuring young Oakland poet Vania Luna Gutierrez.
Sign up begins at 7pm. First seven poets who sign up are guaranteed a spot in the open mic. Open mic begins at 7:30pm.
Featured Youth Poet: Vania Luna Gutierrez, is a Xicana poet, performer, organizer, and first generation scholar hailing from Chicago’s, Humboldt Park. She is currently in her second year at Mills College. She uses poetry as a tool for navigating a life rooted in justice, healing, and global community. Luna is also a Kuumba Lynx alumnae, John Vietnam Black and Brown Activism Award, and BP citizens of tomorrow scholarship recipient. She believes poetry is a catalyst for critical and positive change and understands voice and movement as power.
