Teachers Happy Hour @Cleophus Quealy Beer Co.

SEE EVENT DETAILS
On Friday, February 22nd from 3-9pm, Cleophus Quealy is hosting a fundraising “happy hour” for June Jordan School for Equity’s outdoor education program. Teachers and faculty from all across the bay are invited to join Cleophus Quealy and June Jordan School for Equity for “happy hour” beer specials, in their honor, with a portion of the days proceeds going directly to fund June Jordan School for Equity’s outdoor education program.

June Jordan School for Equity is a small San Francisco High School that stands for community and social justice. June Jordan teaches student to see themselves as part of the past, present, and future movements for justice in their communities, in the world and to become independent thinkers. Students participate in community action, working in a variety of areas including immigrant rights, countering gentrification, and promoting inclusive education for all students.

At June Jordan School for Equity, regular classes end the second week of May and for the final three weeks of each year students participate in an outdoor education program in which they can participate in activities they may not typically have access to on their own, while simultaneously earning five physical education credits to meet graduation requirements. Students have traveled to New York, Cuba, and all over the San Francisco bay area participating in social justice related physical activities.

This year, students have chosen to travel to Maui to study flora, fauna, and marine life in an environment that contrasts what they experience in San Francisco. They will be volunteering with nonprofit organizations such as Hawaii Wildlife Fund and Maui Nua Botanical Gardens and learning from experts about plant and animal life specific to Hawaii. Students will study wildlife habitats and expand their understanding of science-related careers, such as environmental scientists, marine biologists, and animal rights activists.

June Jordan is hoping to raise $10,000 to help support the cost of lodging, travel and to fund these experiences for their students. Please join Cleophus Quealy Beer Co. in supporting the dreams and efforts of the students of June Jordan School for Equity. Join us in enjoying the company of your fellow educators while drinking some great beer and supporting a great cause!
