"T.O.P. Chefs: Taste of Preparedness"

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Love watching Iron Chef on TV? Then check out the LIVE “T.O.P. Chefs” competition (where TOP means “Taste of Preparedness”). Watch as teams of first responders (e.g., police and fire departments, etc.) are challenged with designing main and side dishes within 30 minutes using only items found in a at-home disaster kit: non-perishable foods, bottled water, freeze dried items, etc. The final creations are evaluated by a team of celebrity judges for taste, presentation, quality of meal, and —of course— creativity.

The Salvation Army is attempting to put a new spin on an old (but important message) of having a well-stocked disaster kit at home. In addition to a first aid kit and flashlight, everyone should have enough food and hydration supplies to survive for 72 hours or longer. Most importantly, T.O.P. Chefs encourages the public to get creative in planning their emergency food supplies, hopefully drawing inspiration from some of the culinary creations devised at T.O.P. Chefs!

In addition to viewing the cook-off, spectators can gather information on creating an at home emergency kit, sign up for disaster training or to volunteer, or chat with other Disaster Response organizations. A Salvation Army emergency disaster response canteen will also be on display.

So, bring your lunch and join us for this lunchtime show of culinary creativity!

*Cooking is for demonstration purposes only. Food will not be served at the event (sorry).
