Sustainability Workshop: How Can Contractors Go Green Beyond the Spec Book?

The green building conversation is usually centered on design and operation of the built environment, while little emphasis is given to the construction process and contractors themselves. Their role, however, is not insignificant - construction activity sends twice as much landfills than municipal waste and constitutes 2% of total greenhouse gas emissions in the US. It’s time to go beyond what’s in the specifications and discuss how contractors can make ‘business-as-usual’ more sustainable.

Join USGBC Northern California and construction professionals from the Bay Area for an evening of drinks, brainstorming and networking at Covo, on June 26, 5:30 – 7:30 pm. We will split into the following discussion groups to discuss the efforts contractors can make, their value, challenges in implementation, and success stories:

Material Selection and Resource Efficiency (Site)
Water Conservation and Waste Diversion (Site)
Energy and Emissions (Site)
Organization and People
Business Development

You can indicate you preference for a group by filling out this 2-minute survey here! The group discussions will be preceded by a short introduction by the following panel:

Emi LaFountain, Turner Construction
Kena David, BCCI Construction
Jenelle Shapiro, Webcor Builders
Prateek Jain, Atelier Ten

Agenda:
5:30 – 6:00 pm: Arrival and Networking
6:00 – 6:15 pm: Introduction and Sustainability Spotlight: Turner Construction, BCCI Construction and Webcor Builders
6:15 – 6:45 pm: Discussion Groups
6:45 – 7:15 pm: Sharing Conclusions

We hope to see you there!
