DJ Spun

DJ Spun’s Rong Music is one of the most interesting labels on the planet right about now. Its genre-defying catalogue says as much about the artists as it does about the man behind the label. Since 2003 he has headed up the groundbreaking record label, a dual imprint collaboration with DFA, Tu Rong , and finally Promo Only – which brought the world wide disco edit craze to America.

DJ Spun is a DJ that people talk about in hallowed tones. His journey through music began with punk rock then through hip hop and the birth of House and continues to this day with the re-invention of this musical phenomenon. In addition to his now legendary club nights. He held residencies at several seminal West Coast parties. Manning the decks in countless guest spots Spun has racked up the frequent flyer miles playing at many world-renowned parties and clubs, among them Francios K’s Deep Space party at Cielo in NYC, San Francisco’s Wicked and Gathering, LA’s Sarcastic Disco, Bad Passion and Horse Meat Disco in London, Frankfurt’s the Omen, Cookies in Berlin, BED in Bangkok, Liquid Room and Unit in Tokyo. He has produced over 35 records and 5 cd’s for numerous labels including NOID, Siesta, Editions Disco, Big Bear, and his own Rong Music. Most recently he’s remixed James Chance and the Contortions, and collaborated with Olivier Spencer (House of House, Still Going), Eric Duncan (Rub n Tug, Still Going), Daniel Wang, and Stephen Hall of Arthur Russell and Loose Joints fame.

Spun was the curator and organizer of MoMA/P.S.1?s prestigious Warm Up Music Series, known as “NYC’s best Summertime Party”. Currently his “All Night Rong Party” (usually with DJ Harvey) has developed a world wide cult following and is one of NYC’s most looked forward to events.

Charlotte The Baroness

At the end of the day and what really matters is that my passion is to make people dance. I love all kinds of music from House, Hip Hop, Funky breaks, Electric WTF you you wanna call it, Soul and Funk. I like to find the funk & soul in it all and figure out how to weave it together. So I have never been one to play just one sound. As long as it makes you wanna do it on the dance floor and you are smiling... I have achieved my goal.

Galen

Galen founded Sunset Sound System by setting up a generator and speakers at a park in Berkeley, California every sunday to spin records he didn’t get a chance to play anywhere else. Word spread and soon many hundreds of people we’re dancing and picnicking while watching the sun set behind the San Francisco skyline. Today, Sunset Sound System is on the move with incredible boat and outdoor parties as well as the annual Sunset Campout Festival.
Galen developed his signature sound through these weekly jams and as well as his technically proficient yet fluid dj style. The psychedelic music scene of 90s San Francisco provided a launching point to his extensive vinyl collection the spans many genres from classic disco to post-punk to roots reggae and modern house music. His sets can travel a diverse range yet maintain a conscious groove of cohesiveness, always appropriate to the time and place. They are thoughtful, yet never pre-planned, with artfully-timed track selections that spark any dance floor, appealing to the old school just as much as the new.
Music productions have become a more frequent mode of expression for Galen. Release collaborations with Claude Von Stroke, Justin Martin, Lopazz, and Shiny Objects having laid the foundation to new solo endeavors. A handful exist now and are becoming more frequent as his bass & groove laden production style becomes more defined.

Solar

When Solar began Djing in the early 90's, San Francisco's Clubs and Raves were places where musically, anything could happen. To be a DJ in this time and place meant having a fierce dedication to the craft of creating electrifying music for people to dance all night. A deep record collection and bold creativity were what people valued in the Djs they would go hear every weekend.

In 1994, Solar and a couple other Djs began bringing a sound system and a generator to the Berkeley Marina for free gatherings to dance and watch the sun set behind the San Francisco skyline. As these Sunset parties grew from dozens to hundreds, and now thousands of attendees, Solar become one San Francisco's best loved DJs. Known for his eclectic sets, blending Techno, Disco, House, Electro and electronic music with the energy of Punk and Psychedelic Rock, Solar has built a loyal following among a discerning crowd of dancers and party goers used to hearing every touring DJ you've ever heard of. Nearly twenty years of playing music for crowds large and small has evolved a style of Djing that seamlessly fuses the best of classic and modern dance music. More recently as resident and co-creator of the No Way Back parties, Solar has earned the reputation of a DJ devoted to the art of mixing and selecting music without regard to ephemeral fashion, trends or fads.
