Sunday Farm Supper

A16 welcomes back Mariquita Farm for a Sunday Farm Supper on August 25, 2013. Executive Chef Chris Thompson will create a special menu for the supper showcasing fresh, organic produce from Mariquita Farm in his Southern Italian fare. Farm owner Andrew Griffin will be in attendance to give guests a chance to meet the team behind the ingredients.

A champion of beautiful and flavorful organic produce, Mariquita Farm complements the Sunday Farm Supper philosophy perfectly. Spanish for ladybug, Mariquita is a favorite of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) members and Bay Area restaurants including A16. Griffin and Julia Wiley make up the husband and wife duo operating the 25-acre farm renowned for its heirloom and specialty vegetables, greens, strawberries, and herbs.

Mariquita has been more than just another farmers’ market stop for A16. When the team at A16 brought back Friarelli pepper seeds from a research trip to Italy, Griffin accepted the challenge of growing them in Watsonville. Even after the first batch did not produce a single surviving pepper, Griffin planted the crop again and has been growing Friarelli for the restaurant ever since. A16 is proud to host Griffin back in the restaurant for its August Sunday Farm Supper.

A16 is named for the “autostrada” highway that runs from Naples to Canosa, Puglia in Southern Italy. Under the direction of Executive Chef Chris Thompson, A16 features fresh pasta, house-butchered and house-cured meats, and authentic Neapolitan pizza. Complementing the Southern Italian menu, Wine Director/Owner Shelley Lindgren offers wines that highlight the indigenous grapes from regions such as Campania, Sardinia, and Sicily.
