The Electric Woman is Tessa Fontaine's account of her travels with the World of Wonders, America's last traveling sideshow. As an escape artist, a snake charmer, and a high-voltage Electra, Fontaine witnessed the marvels of carnival life: intense camaraderie and heartbreak, the guilty thrill of hard-earned cash exchanged for a peek into the impossible, and, most marvelous of all, the stories carnival folks tell about themselves. Through these, Fontaine trained her body to ignore fear and learned how to keep her heart open in the face of loss.
The Authentic Animal is Dave Madden's deep dive into the macabre, obsessive world of taxidermy. Madden looks at the many forms taxidermy takes?hunting trophies, museum dioramas, roadside novelties, pet memorials?and considers what taxidermy has to tell us about human-animal relationships.
We're stoked to have Tessa and Dave into our store to share favorite passages from their recent literary works. Tessa will also be selling and signing copies of The Electric Woman.
