Ken Vulsion (@kenvulsion) is the co-founder of the beloved and missed Honeysoundystem. In addition to a weekly Honey Sundays, he has manned the decks at Horse Meat Disco, Cocktail d'Amore, Optimo, and the NYC Downlow at Glastonbury. Inspired by the DIY parties of the UK and reggae soundsystem culture.
Galen (@galensunset) founded Sunset Sound System by setting up a generator and speakers at a park in Berkeley, California every Sunday to spin records for free he didn't get a chance to play anywhere else. Word spread and soon crowds into the thousands we're dancing and picnicking while watching the sun set behind the San Francisco skyline. Today, Sunset Sound System is on the move with incredible boat and outdoor parties as well as the annual internationally acclaimed Sunset Campout Festival. Galen curated the music for Sunset Sound System takeovers for 2 stages at the European festivals Meadows In the Mountains in Bulgaria and Love International in Croatia.
Anyone with the vaguest interest in sparse, jangling beats, synth flourishes, handclaps and cowbells, should be familiar with DJ Spun (@dj_spun) and the label he founded, Rong Music. For seven years the curator of MoMA/P.S.1's prestigious Warm Up Music series, his All Night Rong parties with DJ Harvey and others boast a devoted following from London to Tokyo. Out soon on Above Board Distibution is The Beat by SPUN - West Coast Breakbeat Rave & Electrofunk: (Volume 1)- a brilliantly selected and programmed collection of electro, breaks, house and rave sounds that blew up in SF and on the West Coast in the early 90s.
Joining them upstairs are the Sharp Brothers (@vivian.415, @cahlsel) . Performing live on his minimal hardware rig, Cahl Sel's beat driven but melody led sound ushers in a new era of West Coast experimentation. His first release, 'Every Moment' EP reopened the Reflective Records catalog in 2022, drawing attention from London's Phonica Records "Best of 2022: Singles" and Mixmag's "12 Emerging Artists You Need To Hear: September 2022". Vivian knows music, having shared the booth with Spacetime Continuum, James Glass, adn Tom of England. He also plays guitar.
