Have you ever been interested in using your technology skills for social good? There's been a growing cohort of entrepreneurs and engineers working on humanitarian issues, and we've seen some incredible work from Google.org, Ushahidi, Medic Mobile, and others. However, finding avenues for social impact isn't always the easiest as students, and we're here to help!First, members of Hack4Impact will discuss how to start a social impact technology organization at your school, so that you can build socially impactful products during college. Then, we'll be joined by Sara Hooker, who will speak about her work at Google Brain and Delta Analytics. Sara is a researcher at Google Brain doing deep learning research on reliable explanations of model predictions for black-box models. Her main research interests gravitate towards interpretability, model compression and security. In 2014, she founded Delta Analytics, a non-profit dedicated to bringing technical capacity to help non-profits across the world use machine learning for good. She spent her childhood in Africa, growing up in South Africa, Swaziland, Mozambique, Lesotho and Kenya. Her family now lives in Monrovia, Liberia.
Arrive between 6:15 and 6:45 PM for registration and light food & refreshments. The talk will start at 6:45 PM.
