This special evening event will feature guest speakers who will explore the power of sharing stories to create cultural memory. Speakers include Jack Adler, who will share the story of his internment at Auschwitz/Birkenau; Dr. Robert Levin, the director of education from the Anne Frank Center USA; and University of Santa Cruz alumnus, Maayan Stanton.
Guests will have the opportunity to tour the traveling exhibit, Anne Frank: A History for Today. This amazing exhibit features personal photos from the Frank family, excerpts from Anne's diary, and historical images and text to illustrate the complex reality of WWII and the Holocaust.
Yvonne Simons, Executive Director of the Anne Frank Center USA commented, “We are thrilled that Coastal Repertory Theatre is hosting one of the Anne Frank exhibitions and helping to forge inter-communal dialog as a method to confront modern manifestations of hate—racism, ethnic and religious persecution, and homophobia.
“More than 60 years after the Holocaust, hate and hate crimes remain all too present within the world—with violent and devastating consequences. In the United States, alone, about 250,000 victims suffer each year from hate crimes, with offenses stemming from religious hatred having doubled in recent years. Together with you, The Anne Frank Center USA hopes to contribute to this dialog in our community and “make this world a better place”.
Coastal Repertory Theatre invites you to join us for this important dialog, one we hope will continue throughout our production of The Diary of Anne Frank.
