This is a two-part workshop. The first part is from 10am-11:30am at Samy’s Camera. The second part is from 1pm-4pm and will take place at the Polk Street Blues Festival.
In a series of talks on Street Photography, Scott Globus will present a curated collection of images from great masters of street photography with the goal of stimulating creative exploration, appreciation and depiction of our social landscape. Along the way he will also show some of his own work and the work of other contemporary photographers. In each presentation Scott will cover a mixture of the following topics outlining methods, challenges, options and opportunities that we all have:
History, Philosophy & Ethics of Street Photography.
Strategy, Process, Place and Choice of Subjects.
Breaking down barriers and making connections on the street.
Technical issues such as choice of camera & lens, zone focusing and exposure.
Composition, Intentionality and Dynamic Framing.
Discovering meaning inside the frame.
Editing, Sequencing and Presenting.
Describing the world and creating your own narrative.
Example photographers to be included in the revolving slide deck: Garry Winogrand, Lee Friedlander, Diane Arbus, Chauncey Hare, Catherine Wagner, Walker Evans, Dorthea Lange, Alex Webb & Rebecca Norris Webb, August Sander, Weegee, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Avedon, Sebastian Selgado, Bruce Gilden, Vivian Maier, Josef Koudelka, Danny Lyons and of course, Robert Frank, and many others.
Scott will also have time for several participants in each meeting to share 5-10 of their images (please bring them on a thumb drive.)
The talk will be held at Samy’s Camera on 9th & Bryant Street in San Francisco from 10-11:30. There will is no charge to attend the talk.
Following the free morning talk, there will be a lunch break and then Scott will lead a Photowalk from 1pm to 4pm at the Polk Street Blues Festival. Students will meet Scott at California & Polk Streets at 1pm

About Scott
Scott is a San Francisco based photographer with more than 30 years of experience. In college Scott studied photography at the MIT Creative Photo Lab, founded by Minor White, and has done workshops with Garry Winogrand and Lee Friedlander. He co-founded casting.com, one of the first online repositories of talent, placing actors, models and real people in national ad campaigns. Following that career Scott was the director of a non-profit meditation center for many years. Scott is active in the Bay Area’s photographic community, shooting portraits and events, documenting the social landscape and leading photo walks on the streets of San Francisco and elsewhere. In March, 2019 Scott had an exhibit at The Wall at 529, located within the Peak Design Flagship Store in Hayes Valley and in August, 2019 Scott will be showing his work at the San Pablo Art Gallery.
