StorySlam Oakland is Oakland's longest-running true storytelling show, where ordinary people (and some special guests) get up and tell a true story from their life on the theme. Or just listen and laugh!
This month's theme is: "Advice."
Come tell us a 5-minute true story about some memorable advice you received or gave. Life lessons, relationships, marriage, and parenting, work or retirement -- anything goes as long as you tell us the story behind it and what happened.
(But please save your medical stories for another audience!)
Unasked for advice, a suggestion you were compelled to make, an online review that swayed you. We could all use some funny advice stories! Or just listen and laugh. Note: not all stories may be funny. Sometimes advice turns out to be tragic. Tellers are chosen from the names in the hat.
Stories for open-mic telling must be true about the personal experience of the storyteller and 5 to 6 minutes or less. For complete guidelines visit

Eva Schlesinger is a well-known Bay Area storyteller who you may have seen onstage at The Moth or other StorySlam Oakland shows. But we're giving her a long rein to tell us a more elaborate story as our Feature. Eva is a writer and humorist who is beloved for her memorable style.
