St. Patrick's Day Parade & Festival

The Festival at City Hall provides a great opportunity for attendees to learn more about Irish history and culture while having fun at the event. A full day of activity is planned for the St. Patrick's Day Festival at Civic Center Plaza and on Grove Street, from Polk to Larkin Streets.

The colorful festivities surrounding the parade will showcase Irish culture through live performances and entertainment, arts and crafts exhibitors, food and beverage concessions, children's rides and inflatables, and non-profits booths representing the Irish community.

The Festival will take place before, during and after the Parade on Saturday. The Parade begins at 11:30 AM on Saturday at the corner of Second and Market, where more than 5,000 participants from all over the states will reel about with laughter and revelry all the way to City Hall. Join us for this great San Francisco event, which is the largest St. Patrick's Day event west of the Mississippi!

Schedule

11:30am - 2pm / 173rd San Francisco St. Patrick's Day Parade

The 173rd San Francisco St. Patrick's Day Parade will start at 11:30 AM and run from 2nd & Market Street, down Market Street, making a right at McAllister St. to end up in front of San Francisco City Hall at SF's Civic Center Plaza. A post-parade celebration will take place at Civic Center Plaza until 6pm.


2pm - 2:30pm / Live Traditional Irish Dancing & Irish Music

Whelan Academy of Irish Dance, Darcy Noonan, Félim Egan

Founded in 1998, the Whelan Academy of Irish Dance contirbutes to the cultural and artistic landscape of San Francisco. The academy has become a local center for those interested in learning the art of Irish dance. Darcy Noonan (fiddle) is a native of the San Francisco Bay Area. Darcy has been an instructor many times at music camps such as the Freight and Salvage's Fiddlekids, Golden Toad Camp, Lark in the Morning Camp, and apprentice at Fiddle Tunes. Félim Egan (accordion) was raised in West County Offaly. His musical influences include Matt Molloy, Tommy Peoples, Charlie Lennon and Frankie Gavin. Félim plays frequently with The Black Brothers and Eamonn Flynn.

The Hooks

Originating from the rich cultural tapestry of Sligo, Ireland, The Hooks (https://thehooksmusic.com/) have firmly established themselves in San Francisco, blending rock, folk, and traditional Irish sounds into an exhilarating musical journey. Their reputation for dynamic live shows and a genuine connection with their audience precedes them, ensuring every performance is memorable. Their albums, recorded at iconic studios like Fantasy Studios in Berkeley and Motor and Hyde Street Studios in San Francisco, showcase a diverse palette of sounds, from the deeply hook-laden "Social Climbing" to their debut "Everything Is Golden," reflecting their journey from Ireland to their new home in the Bay Area. Beyond their captivating performances, The Hooks' history of touring places like New Zealand and their vibrant participation in local and international music scenes underscore their global appeal and commitment to spreading their unique sound far and wide.


4pm - 4:45pm / Live Irish-inpired Gospel Music on San Francisco Civic Center Plaza

Glide Ensemble

Immerse yourself in the uplifting spirit of the Glide Ensemble (https://www.glide.org/church/) at the #UniteSF festival at SF Civic Center Plaza at 4:00 PM. Since its inception in 1966 within the Glide Memorial Church, this choir has stood as a towering figure of empowerment, unity, and musical transcendence. With a lineage that includes collaborations with luminaries like Sammy Davis Jr., Leonard Bernstein, Marvin Gaye, Bono, Bobby McFerrin, Maya Angelou, and Joan Baez, they bring a soulful blend of gospel, jazz, and blues that speaks directly to the heart. Their performances transcend mere music, embodying a message of diversity, acceptance, and unyielding hope. From their humble beginnings with just 10 singers and jazz legend John Handy, the Glide Ensemble has evolved into a formidable collective of over 100 voices and eight musicians, dedicated to lifting spirits and fostering community. As they take the stage after The Hooks and before Dublin Soul, prepare to be moved.


5pm - 6:30pm / Live Irish-inspired Soul Music on San Francisco Civic Center Plaza

Dublin Soul

Dublin Soul a fusion of soul and Irish charm, featuring the incredible talents of Tony Lindsay (Santana), Omega Rae (Van Morrison), the traditional vocals of Amelia Hogan, and Ronan and Keith Mulligan from The Hooks, under the guidance of keyboardist, Eamonn Flynn (The Commitments, Elvin Bishop). As part of a special tribute, Dublin Soul will also honor the legacies of Sinéad O'Connor and Shane MacGowan, two titans of Irish music who left us in 2023. Join them in celebrating their unforgettable contributions through a set of heartfelt tributes.
