South Australian Shiraz: Iconic and Ageworthy

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Shiraz (aka Syrah) grows in almost every wine region of Australia, accounts for one-quarter of total wine production and is the top exported wine. Shiraz also has a long history in South Australia. Regions including the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale are home to some of the oldest Shiraz vines in the world, dating back to the 1840s. This rich heritage, combined with a highly skilled winemaking community and a new generation dedicated to improving on the legacy of their predecessors, results in award-winning Shiraz wines produced in a dazzling spectrum of styles. They are delicious on release, but the big question is, "DO THEY AGE WELL?" .

This 10-wine Masterclass led by David Glancy, MS, CWE and Wine Australia's Mark Davidson will feature five current vintage South Australian Shiraz wines compared and contrasted with the same five wines from the 2010 vintage and illustrate the cellaring potential of these wines, the diversity of styles to be found in South Australia and the evolving trends in winemaking over the past 10 years.

David and Mark will be joined by Chester Osborn of d'Arenberg in McLaren Vale, and Fiona MacDonald of Seppeltsfield in the Barossa Valley, and all will be available for questions in what should be a lively and informative discussion.

David Glancy, MS, CWE, founder and CEO, San Francisco Wine School
