Songs and Stories of Our National Parks

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Songs and Stories of Our National Parks is a collaboration between award-winning storyteller and National Park Ranger Gary Bremen and Florida's Historian-in-Song Grant Livingston. Together they tell stories and sing about our National Parks – America's best idea!

Celebrate a century of history guided by Gary's personal tales of national parks across the nation, including Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Gettysburg, Mammoth Cave, Selma, Stonewall, Biscayne, and California’s own Yosemite National Park. Grant accompanies Gary's narrative with folk songs of the times and his own original songs.

Advisory: Appropriate for ages 15 and up.

One story from previous Songs and Stories of National Parks shows was chosen for The Moth podcast and has been downloaded over one million times: https://themoth.org/stories/one-hundred-percent
__________
A National Park Ranger for thirty-three years, Gary Bremen is a writer, speaker and storyteller whose work has appeared in national magazines, on television, radio and podcasts. As a boy growing up in South Florida, his parents instilled in him an insatiable wanderlust fueled by an equally insatiable curiosity; he still finds enormous satisfaction in discovering the little things in the world around him. A proud graduate of the University of Miami, he lives in the little town of Wilton Manors with his husband Roger and their cats Oliver and Elliott in an urban oasis filled with native plants and wildlife.

Singer-Songwriter Grant Livingston has been a Florida favorite since the mid-eighties. In his songs you may meet armadillos, pythons and barnacles, pioneers and invasive plants, or get a sailing lesson in three easy verses! As a guitarist he employs a mix of ragtime, country blues, and early swing. A cross between Jimmy Buffett and Sesame Street, Grant was recently named one of the "Ten Greatest South Florida Folksingers of All Time.” Grant has taught songwriting at Miami-Dade College and, along with fellow songwriter Janet Goodman, coordinates the Nashville Songwriters' Association's South Florida chapter. Grant will be Artist-in-Residence in Everglades National Park in October 2019.
