ODC Theater co-presents the world premiere of Smith/Wymore Disappearing Acts (SWDA) Six Degrees of Freedom, a new evening-length work featuring performers in a hallucinatory virtual world where technology is only moments away from consciousness. Constructed as a dance-theater piece to continue SWDA's ongoing interest in technologically augmented live performance, Six Degrees of Freedom represents the final culmination of the Company's ODC Artist Residency.
Six Degrees of Freedom follows the basic premise that a computer system has fallen asleep and begun to dream. Within that dream, the system anxiously confronts an unusual demand by an unforeseen force, that it must construct an evening-length dance performance. The finished result is a broad assemblage of moments, video projections, scenes and scattered ephemera that will seem familiar and yet always be slightly off. Dances unfold with great attention to detail only to be suddenly interrupted.
