S.O. Smalley, originally from Alabama, lived in Salinas over 20 years. At age 55 he retired from construction, and on Halloween Day 1975 opened the Roundup out of his boredom "with bein' put out to pasture."
About Smalley's secret sauce S.O. said, "It took me five long years to develop that sauce. I figured the recipe out the hard way, addin' and subtractin' until it was right."
Dave, who joined him in 1978, brought you the same great recipe handed down to him by his father for 20 years.
Thirty years later, our family is still bringing you the same great recipe handed down generation to generation.
