Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo Hosts Free Memorial Day Services to Honor American Heroes

Services at Skylawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park in San Mateo, begin at 11 a.m. The event features remarks from Half Moon Bay mayor Deborah Penrose, a military tribute with the honor guard and the Stewart Tartan Pipes & Drums band, a dove release and bluegrass music from the West Coast Ramblers. A complimentary hot dog and potato salad lunch will also be served.
Memorial Day remembers those who died while serving our country in the Armed Forces. The practice of honoring our fallen began as Decoration Day after the Civil War when families of both Union and Confederate forces began to decorate the graves of the fallen. In 1971, Decoration Day became Memorial Day to remember all who died in service to our nation.
