Founded in 2016, the Social Justice Sewing Academy is a non-profit arts education program that brings together artist-mentors, youth, and community members to learn and create through textile art projects. SJSA supports youth to become civically engaged artists as they are challenged to address social issues in their community that directly affect their lives.
This workshop focuses on enabling students to develop and express opinions about a variety of social justice issues, as well as recognizing and honoring activists and upstanders throughout history who fought for equity.
Drawing on your creative mind and unique ideas, this workshop will ask you to reimagine a political future where your voice carries this nation forward. Using fabric and raw-edge appliqué techniques, participants will create a social justice quilt block that will serve as a narrative for their lived experiences. RSVP here!
Kids and teens- FREEAdults- $5 (to be collected at the door)
