Sistah Scifi Author Expo Oakland

SEE EVENT DETAILS
To celebrate Indie Bookstore Day, we are hosting our first Sistah Scifi Author Expo at Oaklandia Cafe x Bakery!

We will have 12 to 14 indie Black and Indigenous Speculative Fiction writers showcase their work with physical and digital copies available for purchase.

In addition, we will bring Sistah Scifi Bookish Tea Party vibes with areas to play games, read, and, of course, color!! This event is appropriate for readers of all ages. There will also be story time for our youngest readers with authors reading their favorite picture books.

About Oaklandia Cafe x Bakery

We are 4th generation Oaklanders that have a talent and passion for fresh food. We are locally owned and operated. We specialize in international baked goods, serve locally roasted coffee, and we make our own sandwiches and breads from scratch. Our food tells the story of when 3 different cultures collide: Black, Latin, and Californian. We want to give people "A taste of the town" with our menu.

If you haven't ordered from us, you are missing out! Start your year out right and order from Oaklandia Cafe x Bakery!

About Bay Area Book Festival:

The Bay Area Book Festival is a world-class literary extravaganza taking place over two days each spring in Downtown Berkeley. Our programming--more than 200 authors on numerous easily accessible stages--truly has something for every book lover you know. These days, thanks to our generous donors and sponsors, the festival is almost entirely FREE, with just two ticketed events. The outdoor portion of the 2023 festival is May 7th, at Martin Luther King Jr. Civic Center Park, with many events at nearby venues, including The Marsh, The Goldman Theater at The Bower Center, and Freight & Salvage, on both Saturday May 7th and Sunday May 8th. Our Outdoor Fair, on Sunday the 7th: a wonderland of literary vendors, kids' activities, and family fun, is entirely FREE and fully family friendly.

Over the years, we've showcased more than 1,250 speakers who come from the Bay Area, the state of California, the nation, and world; our international contingent is one of the largest among U.S. book festivals. Since our founding, we've thrilled more than 125,000 book-lovers of all ages.

But the magic of BABF isn't confined to a weekend...

We also have two year-round series: Women Lit, featuring groundbreaking female-identified authors such as Gloria Steinem and Eve Ensler (who will be returning to the festival this year!); and Bay Area Book Festival #UNBOUND, the virtual branch of our celebrated programming, amplifying bestselling and emerging voices across all genres (such as Jericho Brown, Michael Pollan, Anthony Doerr, and many more). #UNBOUND explores compelling topics such as voter suppression, parenting in a time of anxiety, racism, health and wellness, and more -- along with brilliant literary discussions. Our children's and young adult programs present top authors who are interviewed by youth!
