Aug 4-6, Aug 10-11, Aug 19-20, Aug 24-25, and Sept 2-3, 7-9:30 PM all dates
SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE, based on the Marc Norman and Tom Stoppard screenplay of the Academy Award-winning movie, is one of two productions running in repertory this summer at Sanborn County Park in Saratoga, California.
Young Will Shakespeare has writer's block. The deadline for his new play is fast approaching, but he's in desperate need of inspiration. That is until he finds his muse: the feisty, brilliant, and beautiful Viola. This crafty young woman is Will's greatest admirer and will stop at nothing to appear in his next play. Against a bustling background of mistaken identity, ruthless scheming, and backstage theatrics, Will's love for Viola quickly blossoms, inspiring him to write his greatest romantic masterpiece.
This hilarious and romantic reimagining of William Shakespeare's process is sure to enchant audiences.
Of the production, director Dave Leon has noted, "I like that the script does not deify the Bard. Rather, it humanizes him. He is a flawed, impulsive, sometimes thoughtless man, and because of those flaws, we identify with him. This Shakespeare is vibrant, funny, and profoundly human."
SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE runs in repertory with KING LEAR.
A special ASL-interpreted performance of SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE will take place on Sunday, August 20th.
$25-$55.
Presented by Silicon Valley Shakespeare.
