Silicon Valley Grows: Canning Your Harvest

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at City of Mountain View Library Department (see times)
Would you like to preserve your bean harvest and other crops? Then this program is for you! Learn about food safety, canning supplies, tried-and-true recipes, and the proper procedures for canning food that'll last a year or more. Then we'll sample some finished products that you can learn to make at home.
Please note: we'll be talking and learning, but we won't be cooking.

This is a Silicon Valley Grows event. Silicon Valley Grows is the first ever program of its kind. Modeled after Silicon Valley Reads, this effort fosters a community experience through the science of seed saving. This program is a collaboration of six public libraries with educational support from the Santa Clara County Master Gardeners.

By growing and saving heirloom seeds, home gardeners can help maintain diversity in the food supply, preserve our cultural heritage, ensure continuation of a species, and generate seeds for our seed libraries! On a personal level, participants will enjoy being able to supply their own food and learning how to save seed.

The 2014 seed selection for the community growing program is the heirloom bean, Cherokee Trail of Tears. While we hope that attendees have grown this bean, everyone is welcome to attend, regardless of their participation in the Silicon Valley Grows program.
