About Alexander JulesI started Alexander Jules because of a deep love for Sherry.  I fell in love with them during college.  On my university budget, they offered the most complexity per dollar.  That aside, their specific, unique flavors have always really affected me...and my fridge has had a Fino or Manzanilla in it ever since.
The project slowly developed in my mind over a period of years.  I have worked many years in specialty coffee.  Much of my work was with "micro-lots":  small quantities of absolutely exceptional coffee that are kept separate due to their quality, rather than being blended with other coffees, where their individuality would not be experienced.  Keeping these lots separate leads to some of the finest and most complex coffees out there.
This also holds true for wine.  An artisan winemaker is familiar with every barrel in their winery.  Reserve releases from wineries are often blends of their best few barrels.  The Marco de Jerez is famous for its barrels. Some barrels have been in continuous use for over a century, with small quantities (depending on the age of the wine) being bottled, then replenished with younger wine.  Over the decades barrels develop a personality of their own, via yeasts present, placement within bodega and solera, and many other factors.
I knew that within a solera, there must be some stellar barrels in the mix that deserve to be bottled on their own.  I needed to taste the wines from those barrels, and I wanted to share them with others.  The products you see on this site (and hopefully the product you're swirling in your glass right now) are the result of all of that.
About Hidalgo La GitanaBodegas Hidalgo La Gitana was founded in 1792 and since then the firm has passed from father to son, and is today one of the few wine companies managed by the family and run by the eighth generation in direct line of the founder.Don José Pantoja Hidalgo founded the winery Hidalgo in 1792, when he bought Don Roque Vejarano a small warehouse storage. Although it would be during the nineteenth century when the company would grow to become one of the most important producers of Manzanilla in the world. The name refers to its flagship product, "Manzanilla La Gitana", backed by several important international awards, is the most popular Manzanilla both national and international markets. The winery uses grapes from its own vineyards, located in Balbaina and Miraflores, considered the best of the Framework.
