With San Francisco Performances, visionary Bay Area choreographer and director Joe Goode and dancers will provide a glimpse of a new work in progress titled "Still Standing" based on the idea of storytelling through song. Also selected excerpts from the work "Hush" will be performed. An artist Q & A will take place after the performance.
In 1979, Joe Goode began synthesizing a genre of dance-theater that combined text, gestures, and humor with his own deeply physical, high velocity dancing. In 1986, Joe Goode Performance Group incorporated as a non-profit organization with the mission of providing a support structure for the artistic work of Joe Goode. Over the past 30 years the company has performed annually in the San Francisco Bay Area and has toured extensively throughout the U.S. JGPG has appeared in Canada, Europe, South America, the Middle East, and Africa.
The company is committed to opening audiences' minds to the limitless potential of where and how performance can be experienced. Goode's latest venture into performance installation was Poetics of Space, premiering in 2015 at the company's own studio space, the Joe Goode Annex. The work pushed the boundaries of how to create theater that offers limitless potential for providing each audience member with a unique, "human scale" experience.
In 2011, Joe Goode Performance Group moved into a permanent home at Project Artaud in San Francisco's Mission District. The Joe Goode Annex serves as the rehearsal space for the company, as well as a performance space for the company's own smaller scale works. It is also a community resource available to rent for classes, performances, and special events.
