At venues throughout the City there are classes, demonstrations, panels, dinners and special parties—a little something for every palate!

INSPIRATION.
San Francisco is and always will be a major influencer for food and wine trends, food politics and the sustainability movement. It is a community rich with farmers, writers, winemakers, spirits distillers, artisans and vibrant independent chef-owned restaurants. The population is well-educated, diverse and appreciative of great food and good living. Mild weather ensures quality produce year-round. The moderate climate is perfect for growing grapes and Northern California is recognized as one of the top wine producing regions in the world. Rounding out the natural bounty is Pacific Ocean seafood from just outside the Golden Gate, one of the richest fisheries in the world. Finally, a devotion to environmental consciousness has made the area the epicenter of sustainability in farming, fishing and ranching.

THE EVENT.
SF Chefs, presented by Visa Signature®, is a food and wine event celebrating the unique flavor, diversity and bounty of Northern California. The main tasting tent is on Union Square, where chefs, winemakers, brewers and distillers will offer an exploration of taste. Classes, seminars, demos, dinners and parties will offer interactive opportunities for the public to participate with local farmers, ranchers, chefs, winemakers, distillers, media, authors, brewers, mixologists and culinary experts in an entertaining and delicious forum. SF Chefs is produced by the Golden Gate Restaurant Association (GGRA). The GGRA is a non-profit trade association founded in 1936 to promote, extend and protect the interests of the broader restaurant industry, and to serve their members in the San Francisco Bay Area.

THE CAUSE.
SF Chefs supports a number of local Bay Area food-related charities, including the Center for Education About Sustainable Agriculture (CUESA), Meals On Wheels of San Francisco, the San Francisco and Marin Food Banks, La Cocina and the Golden Gate Restaurant Association Scholarship Foundation. The Foundation grants financial scholarships to students from the Bay Area entering culinary and hospitality programs. The applications are reviewed by the Scholarship Foundation Board of Trustees. Qualified candidates are then interviewed to complete the selection process. The trustees base awards on the financial needs of the student. The goal of the scholarship program is to allow students to continue their education, and to select those motivated individuals who need the most financial assistance to enable them to pursue their education.
