SF Aerial Arts Festival

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Zaccho Dance Theatre and Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture present the biennial San Francisco Aerial Arts Festival (SFAAF), featuring world premiere works by choreographer and Artistic Director of Robert Moses' KIN, Robert Moses, and choreographer Veronica Blair.

This will be Moses' first foray into aerial performance art with a new installation piece integrating older works with aerial explorations with ropes and harnesses. This site specific work will be performed at the Festival Pavilion as a matinee performance on August 20 and August 21.

Featured on the group program, Blair will premiere The RAINBOW is Enuf, a reimaging of legendary playwright Ntozake Shange's For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow is Enuf, expressed through the lens of modern circus.

Also performing on the group program are Montreal-born and Bay Area trapeze artist Shannon Gray, international aerialist Pamela Donohoo, and Acrobatic Conundrum from Seattle.

The SFAAF Youth Performance on Saturday, August 20 showcases young aerialists from Circus Center's San Francisco Youth Circus, Kinetic Arts Center's Circus Spire, Mendocino Center for Circus Arts' Circus Mecca, BANDALOOP & Destiny Arts Youth Company, and Zaccho Youth Company.

New for the 2022 festival, we are developing the New Experiments program with CounterPulse, a unique opportunity for aerial artists to come together to build community, share ideas, and present new works in a mixed program at CounterPulse.

Group Performances are 8pm on Friday, August 19 and Saturday, August 20 at Fort Mason Cowell Theater. Performances of Robert Moses' new work are at 3pm on Saturday, August 20 and Sunday, August 21 at the Festival Pavilion. The SFAAF Youth Performance is at 12pm on Saturday, August 20. New Experiments takes place at CounterPulse at 8pm on Sunday, August 21.
