SER

at University of California Santa Cruz (see times)
Cultural Arts and Diversity presents "SER" written and performed by Karen Anzoategui. In this transnational queer tale, Karen must choose between Buenos Aires, the soccer mecca burning in her heart, and Los Angeles, the land of peace and plenty. Caught in the middle of her parents' tumultuous match they call marriage, as a kid Karen is kicked back and forth between L.A. and Buenos Aires. In adulthood she has to choose between the home of her personal saint Maradona and the immigrant dreamland of L.A. After spending her early years in Los Angeles, Buenos Aires is Karen's soccer paradise and is winning hands down until she gets a reality check as she crosses paths with the aftermath of its dirty war and a devastating economic crisis. What now? Even Maradona seems to be fading. In the middle of it all she fights her way out of dresses and into soccer gear, and faces yet another question: Who will be the object of her affection, the boys on the field or the girls in the stands? A very unique queer story that all LGBTQ communities can relate to!
