September Basic (External) Maintenance Class at the Bike Kitchen

SEE EVENT DETAILS
If you are new to maintaining your bicycle and also want to know the best ways to keep your machine out of the repair shop, this is the class for you. All it takes is a little love and maintenance to keep your ride in peak condition. Come get your hands greasy with us!
Our hands-on Basic Bike Maintenance class will give you the skills to fix flats, adjust brakes and gears, maintain your chain, and perform minor adjustments that can have a significant impact on your ride quality. Not only will you learn how to make adjustments to your own bike, you will develop an understanding of how these components function and work.

Over two class sessions we will cover the following topics:

Installing and removing tubes and tires (i.e. fixing a flat)

Installing brake and shift cables

Adjusting brakes and gears

Chain maintenance

The class takes place over two days:

Friday, September 13th, from 5:45PM to 8:00PM

Sunday, September 15th, from 10:00AM to 2:00PM

No previous bike knowledge is required or expected, but a willingness to learn and have fun is a must!
If your wheels have security locks, please remember to bring the keys and tools for the locks.
The class is a mix of lecture, demonstration and hands-on skills development as you work on your very own bike. All tools will be supplied by the Bike kitchen, you just need to bring your bike and be ready to get your hands greasy!
The fee for this class is a sliding scale: $55-95 for Bike Kitchen members or $105-145 for non-members. Enrolling in the class as a non-member also buys you a year-long membership at the Bike Kitchen. Class size is limited to twelve people. If you do not currently have a membership you MUST select a ticket price that has "Non-Member" in the description.
Food is not provided for our classes, but you are welcome to bring snacks.  We will stop for a 30 minute lunch break during the Sunday class session.

Refund Policy: we offer refunds up to 96 hours before the start of the class. Cancellation after that point involves forfeiting the class payment.  If you are unable to attend a paid class, your new membership is still valid and you are welcome to visit us during regular shop hours and speak to our staff mechanics.
