The fast past city lifestyle can cause us to forget our nutritional needs during high stress times. These are precisely the times these needs should be most important to us. As dancers and peope who have active lifestyles in general, we must maintain adequate nutrition as much as possible in order to avoid injury.
The class will focus on nutritional needs for dancers and physically active individuals. The approach considers that dancers nutritional requirements are on par with most athletes. Focusing on good nutrition provides support for bone and muscle building, stamina, injury prevention, immune support, stress relief, hormone balance, and over all health. Information is taken from a "Nourishing Traditions" perspective and generally does not advocate a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle though modificaitons for these diets will be suggested. In addition, herbal support information will accompany the class.

The benefits of Pilates are extensive. It's a refreshing workout that engages the mind and enhances complete body awareness. Develop a strong back and flat abs by working the deep core muscles. Muscle imbalance is a primary cause of injury and pain. Prevent injury by balancing strength with flexibility, as well as improve joint mobility and muscle elasticity. Learn to use your breath as a tool to activate your core, decrease stress and release any unnecessary tension creating a calm mind and spirit.
Laura will lead functional warm ups, and stretching techniques as wells as share some of her contemporary fusion style and improvisational techniques to bring with you into any dance style.
