Sea Lion Waterfront Stroll

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Join Nature in the City for a unique event that combines the natural and cultural history of Fisherman's Wharf.
We'll begin at the Sea Lion Center at Pier 39 and learn from naturalists at Aquarium of the Bay about the sea lions and their history at the wharf.
Then we'll take a scenic stroll along the waterfront and end up at the award-winning Waterfront Exhibit at the Visitor Center of San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park.
Sea Lion Presentation:
Jenifer Lopez, Interpretive Specialist with the Sea Lion Center, will present "Sea Lion Shenanigans!"
The California Sea Lions have been visiting Pier 39 for 28 years. It is one of the only place in San Francisco to see such charismatic and vocal marine mammals up close. The mission of the Sea Lion Center is to teach the public about their history at Pier 39 as well as their natural history so that we can all better protect them and ensure they continue to visit for many generations to come.
After the talk we will have time on the viewing deck to observe and learn more about the sea lions.

Waterfront History Stroll (Optional):
Next we will head down Fisherman's Wharf to visit The Waterfront Exhibit in San Francisco Maritime's visitor center. The exhibit recreates six historical waterfront neighborhoods, and invites visitors to take a walk along the edge. Visit a wind-swept Yelamu village at the Golden Gate. Find Gold Rush ships buried under the Barbary Coast. Hear the clamor along the shore and get lost in the stories that made "Frisco" a legendary port.

Preparation:
Hat, water, walking shoes and layered clothing. Binoculars and a camera will come in handy as well.
Meeting Location:
Meet inside the Sea Lion Center on the second deck of Pier 39.
Transportation:
Several Muni lines, including the E, F, 39, and 47 drop off very close to Pier 39.
Cost:
This walk is FREE to attend (with RSVPs kindly requested).
Donations (in cash) can be made to the Sea Lion Center at the event. Special bonus! Everyone who donates $10 and above will receive a copy of the new Nature in the City Map.
