Scott Capurro's Gay TurnAround

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Award winning comedian, actor and writer Scott Capurro, known for his work on several TV programs, including The Wright Stuff, 8 Out of 10 Cats and The Truth About Gay Animals, comes to the Throckmorton! Buckle your seatbelt for this hilarious, provocative new show! Scott will definitely tread on the thin ice of controversy, but send you home with a lot to laugh about.

Capurro reflects on his newest show:
The show I’ve written for this season, Scott Capurro’s Gay TurnAround, is about marriage. I meant to write about mine, and some of my misgivings entangling my relationship with my Brazilian husband, however my mother’s voice kept singing in my ear. She had a quite pleasing mezzo-soprano range, and was married thrice; my Grandmother wed five times, twice to the same man, because she didn’t kill him the first time. Obviously my marriage role models are complex, like marriage itself, and I intend to spend the hour wondering why gay men, particularly me, have agreed to take part in this Victorian melodrama entitled Matrimony, an endless narrative that nobody in my family has ever successfully produced.

Warning: More than just a therapeutic hour or three, the show might coerce you to ask yourself, or the person seated next to you a.) Can we rethink this engagement thing? b.) Do you really even like who I am? or c.) Even though we're strangers, or because we are, wanna come back to mine…?

MORE ABOUT SCOTT
The San Francisco Weekly described Scott Capurro perfectly - "stand-up in the very best possible sense - deadpan, ever-alert and hilarious."

Capurro is a veteran of our TV screens. A diverse performer, his talents were also incorporated into various films such as Star Wars: Phantom Menace, where he breathlessly wore a body stocking and Mrs. Doubtfire, where he effortlessly played a homosexual. He is a regular guest on Sarah and Vinnie, Alice Radio 97.3FM and he can be heard in The Andy Warhol Diaries (BBC Radio 4) as Andy Warhol.

Scott frequently plays all the major comedy clubs in the English speaking world including the Punchline in San Francisco, the Comedy Store in London, the Comic Strip in New York City, and Yuk Yuks in Toronto, Canada. Also an experienced actor/director, Scott has performed with A.C.T., The Eureka Theatre, The Magic Theatre in San Francisco, the New Playwright’s Theatre in Washington, the Beverly Hills Playhouse and both the Finborough Theatre and the New Arts Theatre in London, UK.

‘If you thought comics like Ricky Gervais pushed boundaries then nothing will prepare you for Scott Capurro. Having won the coveted Perrier award in 1994, the San Franciscan comic has gone from strength to strength while refusing to sell out, making each show more uncompromising than the last. He is, in my opinion, the bravest and funniest comedian on the circuit.’ –GQ Magazine

"Capurro doesn’t play gently. He goes for the jugular of any topic he touches on. Islam and homophobia bear the brunt of his onslaught here, but he is genuinely unafraid to make anything funny. This is truly daring and dark comedy, yet still there is the promise of a knob gag lurking around every corner." –Graeme Connelly, Chortle
