Join Michael Sutton, Vice President of the Pacific Flyway and Executive Director of Audubon California, for a public talk entitled Sharks in Danger: Impacts of the Global Shark Fin Trade. Sharks play a vital role in ocean ecosystems yet humans kill millions of sharks in global fisheries each year. Michael will discuss the status of shark populations around the world, the role of the global trade in shark fins, and what California and other jurisdictions have done to stem the killing and protect sharks worldwide. In 2011, California enacted landmark legislation banning the trade in shark fins, but today the future of that law—and the fate of sharks themselves—remains tenuous. Science Sunday is held on the third Sunday of every month and is free with admission. Seating is limited.
