The Science Policy Group at Berkeley is organizing a happy hour in coordination with government relations and advocacy representatives from the American Society for Microbiology!
We will be joined by Lauren Gabel (Advocacy Specialist) and Mary Lee Watts (Director, Federal Affairs) to learn more about ASM's work with federal level advocacy, and their plans for future advocacy work at the state level. ASM is one of the largest life science professional societies in the world, with over 30,000 members.
This event was inspired by the fact that ASM's annual meeting is in San Francisco from June 20-24. However, this is not an official conference event, so there is no need to be a conference attendee or even a microbiologist! Whether you don't know the difference between a plasmid or a plastid, or don't know the difference between a policy and a polity, all are welcome. RSVPs not required, but will be extremely helpful for planning.
