Science Fair; a diversity film

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Sept. 12, 7 pm in Piedmont AND Sept 29, 12:30 pm in Oakland @ The New Parkway, 747 24th St.

Hailed by critics as an "ode to the teenage science geeks on whom our future depends", Science Fair follows nine high school students from around the globe as they navigate rivalries, setbacks and hormones in the quest to win the International Science and Engineering Fair. 1,700 of the smartest and quirkiest teens from 78 different countries face off. This incredible group of young men and women are on a path to change their lives, and the world, through science. The award-winning team of Cristina Crostantini and Darren Foster direct the film, which is produced by National Geographic. It won the Audience Award at Sundance and SXSW film festivals.

Equally compelling is the role of the teachers who accompany the young contestants, tasked with the job of keeping the thrilled, even giddy, young scientists on track throughout the fair. Even though not all of the students the film follows will leave a winner, the experience is rewarding for them: a chance to travel, feel proud of their work, and introduce them to potential future colleagues, while viewers can appreciate the possible innovations to come in science and engineering. Monica Castillo, RogerEvert.com, 9/14/18

"Science Fair is a celebration of intellect and kids who want to improve the world. Turns out science is pretty cool, after all." Adam Graham, Detroitnews.com, 10/4/18.
