Sake Tour & Tasting in San Francisco (+ Dinner Option)

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Dr Inkwell would like to introduce you to Noriko Kamei, Warren Pfahl and Jake Myric, the founders of Sequoia Sake, San Francisco's only locally-made sake. Husband and wife team Noriko and Jake will take us on a private tour and tasting, and show us the way that sake is made, a very different process than western-style brewing.
Sequoia believes that the freshest sake is the best sake. Not only do they use locally grown rice, but their Sequoia brand focuses on Nama (unpasteurized sake), which is not as shelf stable so is less common in the US. Because Nama is not heated, it is a living product that can hold flavors and notes that you don't get in the more common sakes. They also make Genshu, an undiluted sake that is bottled directly from the fermentation process, and Nigori, a blend of pasteurized and unpasteurized sakes. Noriko, Warren and Jake also make Coastal, a brand of the more traditional pasteurized sake. If you'd like to learn more about their story, check out this episode of Migrant Kitchen.
Your ticket gets you:

A private tour of the brewery
A short presentation on how sake is made, its terminology and varieties
Expert insight from Dr Inkwell and the Master Brewers
A guided tasting of their sakes
A paired tasting of the four flavor types that highlight their flavor profiles (fruit, cheese, spicy pickle and chocolate)
A tasting of the stages as sake matures
An opportunity to buy Sequoia Sake's products

The tour is limited to 20 participants. As part of the Boozephreaks event, all participiants will be entitled to a small gift bag. You must be at least 21 years of age to join.
Meet at the brewery at 5:45pm. Please arrive on time.
Look for Doctor Inkwell in his labcoat to begin.
