The South Asian Bar Association of Northern California (SABA-NC) is co-hosting with Hastings South Asian Law Student Assocation (SALSA) a public interest symposium. We welcome law students and lawyers interested in public interest law to attend. It will be opportunity to discuss the challenges and the joys of practicing public interest law.
We will have a panel of public interest attorneys including:
Rani Singh, an Assistant District Attorney with the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and head of the Domestic Violence Unit
Neha Gupa, a Deputy City Attorney with the San Francisco City Attorney's Office, who counsels various city agencies and advises government litigation team on Constitutional issues
Sliman Nawabi, Deputy Public Defender with the San Francisco Public Defender's Office, who represents indigent clients facing felony charges
The panel will be moderated by SABA-NC's President, Asit Panwala. Previously, Asit worked as an assistant district attorney for fourteen years including four years in the homicide unit. Currently, he has his own practice, and recently litigated a case to the California Supreme Court on the issue of the right to referendum, land use and zoning.
