The winery was founded in 1959, by Rodney Strong, one of the pioneers of the modern wine industry in California and Sonoma County. After changes in ownership and directions during the 1970's and 1980's, Rodney Strong Vineyards was acquired by Klein Family Vintners in 1989, a family-owned farming-based business, and returned to its vineyard roots.
In a way, our history goes back a hundred years, when Sonoma County settlers planted our heritage River West Zinfandel vineyard (just behind what would later become our winery) in 1904, and Tom Klein’s great-grandmother was tragically killed in the powerful 1906 San Francisco earthquake. - rodneystrong.com/history.html
