Refuge in the Three Jewels

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Refuge means depending on something which can protect us. Three Jewels (Skt. tri-ratna) means Buddha-Dharma-Sangha, i.e., the enlightened one who taught the path to liberation, the teachings and the truths of the ceasing of suffering and the path, and the community of realized beings who can help us cultivate the path.

A special feature of Buddhism is that the aim is for each of us to cultivate our own inner Three Jewels; each of us needs to achieve our own realizations, free ourselves from suffering, and become one of those enlightened beings who can help liberate others.

Topics covered in this course include:

Reasons for going for refuge & valid refuge objects
Introduction to refuge preliminary practice
Qualities of the Three Jewels (ultimate and relative)
Measure of having gone for refuge & Causal and resultant refuge
Benefits of having gone for refuge
Taking Refuge & Lay Vows: ceremony and commitments

Categories: Religion & Spirituality

This event repeats weekly on Thursdays until Mar 5, 2015: Feb 5, Feb 12, Feb 19

No charge but donations gratefully accepted
