Susan Shillinglaw, a professor of English and Comparative Literature since 1984 at San Jose State University, is a noted John Steinbeck scholar whose research recently earned her the President's Scholar Award at SJSU. She now comes to River House Books to discuss and read from her most recently published book, Carol and John Steinbeck: Portrait of a Marriage, which explores the marriage between Steinbeck and his first wife, who was the pivotal force behind some of his greatest work during the 1930's.
