THIS EVENT HAS ENDED
Cinema’s consummate crate-digger Don Malcolm, the mastermind behind THE FRENCH HAD A NAME FOR IT, is back at the Roxie again starting May 5—and this time he’s taking noir aficionados around the world in the second edition of his international noir series. On tap for the May 5-8 long weekend: twelve films from eleven countries over four delirious nights & days.

Two better-known films (UK’s ODD MAN OUT and Italy’s BITTER RICE, freshly anointed by the folks at Criterion) are signposts for our re-immersion into the post-WWII timeframe where, as Don likes to say, “the world went dark.” But you’ll be astounded to discover that the ten other films in the series are just as dark, desperate and gripping. “And, actually, even more so,” he grins.

Dare to immerse yourself in impossibly rare, one-of-a-kind noirs such as CAIRO STATION (Egypt), IN THE NAME OF THE LAW (Italy), KRAKATIT (Czechoslovakia), SEAGULLS ARE DYING IN THE HARBOR (Belgium), CASH CALLS HELL (Japan) and THE HOUSEMAID (South Korea).
