Queer and Trans Acro

SEE EVENT DETAILS

Join Toni and Liz for a 3 hour workshop exploring the practice of partner acrobatics. This will be an all-levels workshop in a safe and inclusive space; all folks are welcome here! No experience or partner necessary; a willingness to learn and fumble in the process are helpful pre-requisites for this event.

In this workshop we will introduce the basic principles of standing acrobatics, L-basing acroyoga, and our favorite CONDITIONING DRILLS to keep you safe and strong in this practice. For those of you that have experience in acro we will provide you with progressions to challenge and refine what you already know.

About the instructors:

Liz and Toni met at the Athletic Playground many years ago and have connected through their love of acrobatics, bodywork, and burning man. They have spent quite a bit of time over the years nerding out over various massage techniques, exploring ways to balance with and on each other, and refining the art of uncontrollable laughter. They are stoked to share this practice they love with more folks from the queer and trans communities ... it is their hope that this event will facilitate more inclusivity within the greater acro community.

Toni Cannon made his debut on the stage six years ago with Topsy Turvy queer Circus and loved every moment of it. Since that time, he has performed with Acrosanct, Body Waves, and Arieal Animations. Toni loves acrobatics and finds the challenge of performing and training thrilling. Over the years Toni has taught workshops at the Athletic Playground, Sons of Cayuga, and with groups performing in Souls of Brooklyn and Toronto Pride. He currently teaches private sessions in acrobatics - partner and solo work. Toni is a professional bodywork and holds certifications in multiple massage modalities.

Liz Williams has been teaching partner acrobatics in SF since 2011. She co-founded Precision Acrobatics with her training partner Ariel Mihic in 2017; as a similar sized female duo they have worked diligently to understand the technique required for advanced tricks, and they love to share how these can work for EVERY BODY. Liz is a physical therapist and holds certifications in massage therapy, YogaSlackers, and yoga therapy.
