Horizons’ Q Series are free public events featuring leaders of the LGBTQ movement in dialogue about our movement, our culture, and what it means to be LGBTQ. Description: Queer people have had a detailed history of being criminalized by society. It wasn’t long ago when you could end up in jail because you happened to visit a gay bar or because the buttons on your sweater weren’t oriented to the traditional “feminine side”. Although we have seen many advancements, LGBTQ people still face discrimination in the legal and penal system. What can we do to reform the system and ensure equal treatment for all? Let’s take a look at who is being criminalized today and how do we rebuild queer lives affected by the criminal justice system?
