The Military Health Project and Foundation is excited to partner with Puppy Mama Inc. to launch our newest program to provide service, therapy or emotional support dogs to our veterans – Puppies for Patriots on Thursday, August 24. We know how vital these dogs are to America’s service members – but, to many, they are simply unaffordable. On average, a service dog will cost a veteran anywhere between $15,000 and $18,000 over their lifetime, and is very rarely covered by their health insurance. While therapy dogs and emotional support dogs are never covered, despite having their extreme effectiveness known.
Not only do dogs provide emotional support for veterans returning home with mental health related challenges, but they can also monitor their physical health and be trained to notify their owner of problems in case of emergency. They can also often relieve the symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, something that affects up to 11% of all returning veterans. Puppies for Patriots is a program that is dedicated to supporting the needs of these service members – and connecting them with a dog that will not only be a companion, but also a vital necessity for their health.
100% of every dollar raised will go to the long term support of Puppies for Patriots. This year we have identified five veterans in California, who will immediately benefit from this fundraiser.
