Presidio Theatre Presents 'Cinderella The Panto!' for the Holidays

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Dec 6-22; Fridays 7:30-9pm, Saturdays and Sundays 2-3:30pm, also Thursday Dec 26, 2-3:30pm

The newly transformed Presidio Theatre on the Main Post in San Francisco will present a British holiday tradition updated for the Bay Area this December with the premiere of a new version of Cinderella The Panto! by Patirica Miller and Panto SF. The production features drag legend Peggy L'Eggs as the oh-so-deliciously-evil stepmother, and headliner Ron Campbell of Cirque du Soleil and Teatro Zinzanni fame as The Fairy Godmother. The cast will additionally feature a nine of the Bay Area's finest actors, clowns and drag performers. Panto is an uproarious British tradition of clever repartee, slapstick humor and music, with audiences encouraged to boo, hiss and cheer the characters. This new production is adapted to the City's audiences with many local references and inside jokes while remaining true to the spirit of the grease paint of old Vaudeville.

Writer, director and Panto expert Patricia Miller says, "As a young girl growing up in London I adored the Christmas pantomime with its colorful costumes and jokes that only the adults seemed to get. There was a huge sense of joie de vivre, no boundaries, and no limits as families of all kinds laughed, booed and hissed together as they had a century before. San Francisco has a wealth of talent trained in musical comedy, clowning, vaudeville and drag, all essential requirements for a great panto show."

Panto is not about silent mimes in stripey shirts trying to escape glass boxes. Beloved in the UK and Ireland for 300 years, its seasonal comical adaptations of classic fairy tales are told with music, slapstick, repartee and audience interaction. While the story will move along its classic lines, dialogue is always spiced with double-entendre that only the adults will understand and appreciate. Panto SF 's original pantos have all the cheers and hisses the Brits expect but its rooted in San Francisco locations and lore.

$20-$50.
