For 12 years, Leslie Carol Roberts has made daily walks in the Presidio forest, as a writer, mother, and woman seeking solace in the face of climate change. The result is Here Is Where I Walk: Episodes from a Life in the Forest -- a series of absorbing, funny, tragic, and deeply present essays that will resonate for all who know nature as a place to absorb, accept, relish, and even seek out change.
At this event, join Leslie for a walk and series of writing exercises in the woods. Leslie will lead guests up the Ecology Trail to a few of her favorite sites in the Presidio, including Andy Goldsworthy’s Spire, inviting participants to engage with the park's subtle and soaring beauties. Each guest will be provided with a custom Here Is Where I Walk folded 'zine created by the author and appropriate for making Field Notes, which we will write and discuss along the way.
Please dress for walking and the weather. Bring water, a pencil or pen, and a small notebook or book to serve as a writing “desk” (or a mobile device to make notes). This moderate uphill walk is approximately 1.5 miles on unpaved trail.
Leslie Carol Roberts is an author, journalist, and essayist. She is also Professor and Chair, MFA Writing, at California College of the Arts in San Francisco.
